Virtual reality is about to get hot in the next few weeks
This spring has been lacking, but the next few weeks could be the most exciting in a long time for the VR industry.
A month ago, I noted that it had been an eerily quiet spring for the VR industry. In February, The Playstation VR 2 was released without much hype, and little happened after that. Neither Sony nor Meta nor any of the other major players had much to announce. But the drought of exciting news is about to end.
There are three big events coming up in the next three weeks that could bring new momentum to the VR industry. Mark your calendars for the following events and dates.

Playstation Showcase
Sony will kick things off next week with the Playstation Showcase, which will take place on May 24th.
The showcase will last more than an hour and will focus on PS5 and PSVR 2 titles developed by "top studios from around the world".
Since the launch of the Playstation VR 2, a number of new VR games have slowly trickled in, such as Walkabout Mini Golf and Red Matter 2. To boost sales of the system, Sony needs to show its commitment to PSVR 2 and announce a couple of titles that make people excited.
Meta Quest Gaming Showcase
Meta Quest 2 suffers from a chronic lack of major first and second party titles. The last big hit was Resident Evil 4, which was released in the fall of 2021.
At the Gaming Showcase, which will take place on June 1st, Meta can make up for this and announce some big in-house productions. Rumor has it that a VR port of Asgard's Wrath or even a sequel to the PC-VR-RPG will be announced for Meta Quest, among other big titles.
WWDC 2023
Apple's legendary mixed reality headset has been in development for many years. At WWDC 2023, it could finally, really, actually be unveiled. At least, that's what well-informed (but fallible) sources like Apple leaker Mark Gurman and supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo think.
If Apple were to really enter the market, it would be one of the biggest events in the history of spatial computing. So let's hope the rumors are true this time.
The WWDC 2023 keynote will be held on June 5th. Read on to learn more about Apple's rumored headset.
