Versailles invites you on a multi-user VR journey to explore its lost gardens

A new VR experience at the Palace of Versailles lets visitors explore the lost gardens of the 17th century.
Since March 25, visitors to the Château de Versailles can take part in a unique VR experience.
"Versailles: Lost Gardens of the Sun King" allows visitors to explore three legendary gardens of Versailles that no longer exist. Guided by landscape architect André Le Nôtre (1613-1700), you will visit the Royal Menagerie, the Labyrinth and the Tethys Grotto. The VR experience is interactive and designed for multiple users.
The project is the result of a collaboration between the Château de Versailles, Gedeon Experiences, Small Creative and Vive Arts. The digital reconstruction of the gardens is based on a meticulous analysis of archival documents, expert testimonies and archaeological remains.
The 25-minute VR experience is presented on HTC Vive Focus Vision headsets and is available in French, English, and Chinese. It is suitable for ages 8 and up and costs 15 euros per person. The VR experience will be available through January 4, 2026.
More information and tickets are available on the official website.
Experience Versailles from home
For PC VR users who want to experience Versailles from home, there are two free VR experiences available on Steam:
- VersaillesVR, created with the help of Google Arts & Culture, offers a virtual tour of the Château de Versailles. In the largest photogrammetry project of the Palace to date, 21 rooms and 36,000 square meters have been digitally captured, including more than 100 sculptures, paintings and other works of art that can be viewed up close. The tour includes the private apartments of the royal couple, the Opera, the Chapel, and the Hall of Mirrors. For an even more exclusive experience, a night mode can be activated at the touch of a button to explore the villa by pale moonlight.
- The VR experience Vivez Versailles takes you on a journey through time and lets you relive two historic events in the magnificent palace complex: the visit of a political delegation from the Kingdom of Siam (now Thailand) on September 1, 1686, and a masked ball in 1745 to celebrate the wedding of Crown Prince Louis Ferdinand.
