This is what Valve's rumored new VR controllers could look like
Valve leaks 3D models of a new pair of VR controllers, confirming rumors from last week.
VR leaker Brad Lynch and his team of dataminers discovered render models of Valve's rumored new VR controllers (codenamed "Roy") in SteamVR drivers. Valve has since plugged the leak.
The 3D models confirm findings from last week that suggest the VR controllers will have a DPAD, bumpers, and ABXY buttons, making them suitable as a gamepad for traditional Steam games. Brad's team also found a texture that suggests there may be a "Gamepad Mode" for the VR controllers.

Valve Deckard - Hope for a release in 2025
Compared to the Index controllers, the new input devices are slightly smaller and do not require tracking rings, as the following comparison between the Valve Index controllers, the Roy controllers, and the Touch Plus controllers shows.
According to Lynch's sources, the straps will be optional this time and integrated into separate battery doors, similar to the Touch Plus Active Straps.

The Roy controllers are currently being tooled for mass production, according to Lynch's sources. Since it is unlikely that Valve will launch new VR controllers alone, the leaks raise hopes that a new VR headset from Valve will finally come to market in 2025. Valve Index will be six years old next summer.
Brad's team also found evidence that the new VR controllers use camera-based tracking, which suggests that Deckard (the code name for the new VR headset) will rely on inside-out tracking instead of base stations. Anything else would be surprising.
Interesting for flat gamers: The dataminers also spotted a thumbnail of a rumored new Steam Controller (codenamed Ibex), which Lynch's sources say is also being tooled for mass production.
