Train Sim World VR is coming exclusively to Meta Quest this month
Remember dreaming about driving a train through New York City? That dream becomes (virtual) reality this month when Train Sim World VR launches on Meta Quest headsets.
Dovetail Games, following their announcement last summer, has now confirmed the release date of Train Sim World VR: New York. The VR game hits the Meta Quest platform exclusively on March 27.
The VR adaptation of their popular train simulator will be available across all current Quest devices, including the Quest 3, Quest 3S, Quest 2, and Quest Pro. Players will get to explore detailed recreations of New York City's railroads and its surrounding areas.
Career mode, collectibles and relaxed driving
The game puts you in the conductor's seat along the Harlem Line, letting you transport passengers through accurately recreated sections of Manhattan and the Bronx. Players can progress through multiple game modes, including a full campaign, one-off rides, and a dedicated exploration mode.
Between shifts, you'll get to unwind in your own customizable virtual New York apartment. For the competitively minded, global leaderboards let you measure your train-driving prowess against players worldwide.
The core features include:
- A career mode that starts you as a rookie driver on the Harlem Line, advancing through progressively challenging assignments
- A relaxed "Journey Mode" for exploring stations and hunting collectibles
- Detailed simulations of real-world train locomotives
- Competitive leaderboards for comparing scores with friends
The developers promise intuitive VR controls and mechanics designed specifically for virtual reality. Starting March 27, train simulation enthusiasts can step into the world of New York railway operations in VR.
Parallel development to Train Sim World 5
Train Sim World VR: New York represents a collaboration between two established studios. Dovetail Games, which has specialized in railroad, transport, and digital tabletop simulations since 2009, partnered with Just Add Water, the team behind VR titles like Sniper Elite VR and its Winter Warrior expansion.
This VR project runs parallel to Dovetail's main series — they launched Train Sim World 5 for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox in September 2024, marking a busy period for the railroad simulation specialists.
