FACTS

The titles were nominated in the category "Outstanding Emerging Media Program".

In addition to The Pirate Queen, three other works are nominated in this category, including two other VR experiences.

  • The VR film Emperor by Atlas V,
  • Red Rocks VR live concerts for Meta Quest and
  • Fallout: Vault 33 from Amazon.
CONTEXT

The Pirate Queen is Singer Studios' first VR production and follows Cheng Shih, who lived in the early 19th century and at the height of her power commanded a fleet of over 400 ships and 70,000 men. The plot is partly fictional and tells the story of a fateful night when Shih must thwart a rival's plans to seize power.

The VR game alternates well between narrative passages, puzzles, and skill challenges to keep things interesting. During the two-hour adventure, you can listen to Shih's thoughts and participate in her inner world. The pirate is voiced by American actress Lucy Liu.

In our review of Wallace & Gromit VR, we wrote:

"Anyone who knows and loves Wallace & Gromit will feel right at home in this story. The typical plasticine character style and British slapstick humor are in no way inferior to the movies, but are of course a matter of taste. The performances of Benjamin Whitehead, who has voiced Wallace in all media since 2009, and actress Miriam Margolyes as robot lady Beryl are the highlights of the game."

Wallace & Gromit in the Grand Getaway is also available on the Quest Store.
