This VR horror game nearly drove me crazy on Meta Quest and will soon do the same on PC VR
MyDearest announces the release of the Steam version of the subtle VR horror game "The Exit 8 VR" — an experience not to be missed.
The Exit 8 VR is a VR adaptation of the walking simulator "The Exit 8" developed by Kotake Create. The studio sends you through a tunnel that is always the same, inspired by sterile Japanese underpasses and subway tunnels, as well as horror phenomena such as liminal spaces and back rooms. You are immersed in a reality that is difficult to grasp and slowly takes away your sanity — it almost took mine.
A VR horror experience that fascinates and disturbs at the same time
It took me just under an hour to review The Exit 8 VR on the Meta Quest 3, but I was more exhausted afterwards than from almost any other VR game. The mix of puzzles and subtle horror works best when you know nothing about the game and just let yourself go.
The goal of The Exit 8 VR sounds simple: follow the subway tunnel until you reach the stairs to exit number 8. The only problem is, that you keep walking in circles without realizing it. The path leads you through the same old corridor, you meet the same old emotionless businessman and hear the same old clicking of the flickering fluorescent lights — until finally something changes, and you realize that you are not alone down here. Now you just have to figure out how to escape the horror, and that requires one thing above all else: watchful eyes.
PC VR version still without a release date
The Exit 8 VR has been available in the Horizon Store for Meta Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro since July and costs just under $7. The price will remain the same for the upcoming PC VR version, but a specific release date has not yet been set.
Developer My Dearest has made a few small changes to the VR port compared to the indie hit originally released on Steam in 2023. So if you already know the PC version, you can also experience something new in the VR version. I can recommend the short but intense VR experience to anyone who enjoys subtle horror.
