FACTS

The VR game Subside will be released on Steam on September 17th, 2023.

Subside is an immersive VR experience that transports you to a detailed underwater world. You can explore different areas and interact with deceptively real aquatic creatures. The game aims to recreate the intricacies of real shallow water swimming and diving with unprecedented detail.

If you want to get a taste of the game before its release, you can download and play a free demo from the same Steam page. However, the demo is already a year old.

CONTEXT

Subside: A visual treat for PC VR fans

MIXED wrote an article about Subside back in early 2023. At that time, there were only videos to watch and the game did not have an official name. However, the videos already impressed with their realistic graphics, such as when the virtual hands create believable waves on the surface and, after submerging, floating particles give the feeling of gliding through water clouded by algae.

The game requires a computer. The recommended system requirements are moderate: an RTX 2070 or Radeon RX 6800 and 8 GB of RAM are sufficient, according to the Steam page.

If you want to follow the developer, you can do so on the X platform.

The developer answered a couple of questions from fans under the announcement post:

  • A multiplayer mode is not currently planned, nor is a flat screen mode.
  • He confirmed that the app will cost something.
  • Although you will encounter large fish in the game (some screenshots show a shark), there is no need to be afraid as you cannot be killed by them.
