Meta Quest 3 and 3S close in on Quest 2 with PC VR users
In Valve's latest SteamVR survey, Quest 3 and 3S are catching up to Quest 2, which bodes well for Meta.
Meta Quest 2 lost about 2.5 percent in January, while Meta Quest 3 and 3S together gained 6 percent. Quest 2 now has a share of about 31 percent, while the next-generation devices have a share of 28 percent, a difference of only three percent. In the December survey, the difference was much larger: Quest 2 accounted for about 34 percent, while Quest 3 and 3S together accounted for 22 percent.
Meta Quest 3S also moved up to 5th place among the most used PC VR headsets, compared to 9th place in December.
These numbers mean that Meta's plan is working, and that PC VR users are moving from Quest 2 to Quest 3 and 3S at an accelerated rate.
Pico 4 and, to a lesser extent, Playstation VR 2 made some gains, while legacy headsets like Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and others lost ground across the board. The five-year Valve Index even lost 2.3 percent.
Overall, Meta's SteamVR headset share is now just under 70 percent, up from 67 percent last month. An impressive new record for Meta.

What is Valve's SteamVR survey?
SteamVR is the largest PC VR platform.
The screenshot above is taken from Valve's monthly Steam hardware and software survey. It includes all VR headsets that were connected to PCs with Steam installed during the month in question, and whose users participated in Valve's survey.
The statistics provide an indication of the relative distribution of PC VR headsets, but do not include devices that are used exclusively in standalone mode. Quest headsets can be used wirelessly on a PC via Quest Link, Virtual Desktop and Steam Link - an option that a minority of users take advantage of.
