The location-based VR attraction Sandbox VR is growing fast
Sandbox VR is experiencing strong growth and plans to open 280 new locations over the next four years.
The company Sandbox VR announced that it saw 60% growth in franchise deals in Q2 with plans to open 280 new franchise locations in the next four years.
Since opening its first store in Hong Kong in 2017, Sandbox VR has grown rapidly through its own locations and an extensive franchise program.
- Today, over 100,000 monthly players visit the worldwide locations.
- In 2023, the company sold more than 1.2 million tickets and recorded a 33% increase in ticket sales in 2024 compared to the previous year.
- The 37 corporate locations hit a revenue milestone with an average store topping $1.9M annually.
On August 15, 2024, Sandbox VR opened its 50th location on the Gold Coast in Australia, expanding its global footprint to four continents and nine countries.
What is Sandbox VR?
Sandbox VR is a social free roam VR experience for up to six people with full-body tracking and haptics. The eight exclusive VR experiences on offer, including the successful Squid Game Virtuals, were developed by Sandbox VR.
Sandbox VR was established in Hong Kong in 2017. In addition to corporate locations, Sandbox VR is relying on a strong franchise program to expand its global presence.
In its latest round of funding, the company raised over $37 million from investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Alibaba Entrepreneurs Fund, Gobi Partners and Craft. Individual investors include Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry, Kevin Durant and Will Smith.
