FACTS

The British manufacturer has announced a new funding round of £2.4 million, equivalent to around $3 million. The lead investor is Pembroke VCT, alongside new and existing angel investors from both the UK and US.

The funds will be used to meet demand for the launch of the Roto VR Explorer by increasing operational capacity and expanding market reach, the company writes.

Roto VR is an official Meta partner whose product is part of Meta's Made for Meta programme for Quest accessories. The company has also secured contracts with Amazon and various retail chains, including GameStop.

The Roto VR Explorer has been shipping worldwide since early November 2024. It costs $799 in the US, including shipping.

CONTEXT

What is the Roto VR Explorer?

The Roto VR Explorer comes with a head tracker that attaches to the user's head and automatically rotates in the direction the user turns. Roto VR aims to solve the problem of stationary 360-degree immersion, allowing for more intuitive movement while seated and minimizing motion sickness. A built-in rumble pack also provides haptic feedback based on game audio.

Designed in collaboration with Meta for Quest headsets, the chair is compatible with a wide range of VR titles. The headset can be charged while playing via a USB port in the base of the chair, while a special cable magazine prevents the cable from getting tangled. The chair requires an external power supply.

According to the FAQ, Roto VR Explorer also supports other standalone headsets such as Vive XR Elite, Pico Neo 3, and soon Apple Vision Pro, while PCVR support is in the works.
