RoboCop VR game disappears: Amazon MGM claims there is no licensing agreement

The recently announced VR game RoboCop: Streets of Anarchy has hit a major roadblock — Amazon MGM says it was never actually licensed in the first place.
According to an Amazon MGM spokesperson speaking to UploadVR, the company never entered into any official licensing agreement with developer Coffee Moth Games. The VR game, which was slated for release in VR arcades by late 2025, has now been halted in its tracks.
The plot thickened when Coffee Moth Games' website, which had been showcasing the game, suddenly went dark. A representative from the studio later explained that they're actually an outsourcing company with no direct relationship to Amazon MGM. According to them, they were contacted about developing the game by a company that claimed to handle Amazon MGM's licensing rights.
A ghost game that never was
The game's announcement appeared rather quietly on Coffee Moth's website about two weeks ago, promising an original story in the RoboCop universe complete with "bombastic action" and realistic graphics. Curiously, there were no screenshots, videos, or proper announcement — just a webpage making bold claims.
Initially, the site listed Meta Quest 3 and PC VR as target platforms, though Coffee Moth later backtracked, saying these were mistakenly included, and the game was meant exclusively for arcades. Given the lack of official license, it's unclear how far development had actually progressed before Amazon MGM stepped in.
For RoboCop fans still hoping to patrol the streets in VR, there's at least one alternative: the UE VR Mod and RoboCop: Rogue City, a narrative first-person shooter that captures the B-movie charm of the original films.
