Sony is discontinuing the PS 5 camera adapter for the PSVR 1
Sony will soon stop giving out an adapter that is needed to use Playstation VR 1 on the PS5.
According to the support page, Sony will no longer offer a PS5 adapter for the Playstation Camera after November 26, 2024, or as soon as stock runs out.
The adapter is required to use Playstation VR 1 with Playstation 5. It is the only way to connect the Playstation Camera to the newer console. The Playstation Camera is responsible for the tracking of the VR headset and controllers. Playstation VR 2 no longer requires an external camera.
PSVR 1 owners were previously able to request a free adapter from Sony, and it was included in the box since th end of 2020. If you can no longer get an adapter, you might be able to find one on online marketplaces.
If, like me, you still have a Playstation VR 1, you have good reason to keep it: Many PSVR classics and exclusives like Astro Bot Rescue Mission and Blood & Truth have not been ported to Playstation VR 2 and can't be played on any other headset.
