Go and get this Quest 3 mixed reality game for free, you won't regret it
Project Aeroes is an MR arcade game that you can currently get for free and keep forever. We played it with Quest 3.
In Project Aeroes, small spaceships beam into your room. Your task is to guide them safely to a blue pillar of light in the room, called the Hangar. You do this by first touching a ship and then immediately touching the pillar to automatically determine a safe route. You can only guide one ship per hand, so you will have to run back and forth between wandering ships and the hangar.
The number of ships increases with each wave, making the situation more and more chaotic and hectic. Meteor showers, cosmic storms, cyber attacks, and other hazards complicate your task, while power-ups that briefly appear in space give you superpowers. In tricky situations, you can slow down the flow of time or wield a hammer that can catapult spaceships into the hangar with one powerful blow.
Effective arcade gameplay meets mixed reality
I played a few rounds of Project Aeroes and liked how it combined fast and colorful arcade gameplay with a physically intense mixed reality.
The room and furniture are covered with a matching texture, spaceships criss-cross the room and collide with objects, while dangers like the meteor shower add dramatic room-filling visual effects. You really feel like you've been transported right into an arcade game. This feeling is enhanced by the retro arcade soundtrack.
Rescuing ships earns you credits that you can use to upgrade your fleet of spaceships in terms of maneuverability, cargo capacity, fuel quantity and consumption, making it easier to master the waves. As you progress through the game or purchase DLC, you can unlock additional fleets with unique attributes and bonus abilities.
Get Project Aeroes for free while you still can
In addition to the standard mode, there are achievements to unlock and a challenge mode with special game scenarios to master. You can also compete with your friends via online leaderboards. Project Aeroes is currently single-player only, with multiplayer modes to be added in future updates.
The game was one of the winners of the Meta Hackathon 2023 and is being developed by London-based Super Hyper Games.
You can claim the mixed reality game for free on the Horizon Store until the beginning of March. The regular price is $10. If you like the game, you can support the studio by buying DLCs.
Project Aeroes requires a room scan and therefore only runs on Quest 3 and 3S.
