Origami Vision is a promising mixed reality concept that Meta rejected
Learning to fold Origami with mixed reality: Developer Javier Davalos wanted to pursue the idea, but Meta rejected the concept.
XR developer Javier Davalos applied for a new Meta accelerator with a promising concept.
He envisioned a mixed reality app called Origami Vision that would teach users how to fold complex origami. An animated 3D model that could be placed anywhere in the room would show each step.
Unfortunately, his application was rejected by Meta.
#OrigamiVision the app that never was ?
Sadly our pitch to the Meta Lifestyle accelerator wasn't accepted.
AdAdIt would have been pretty sweet, but I can't make it without funds. Here's part of our pitch. As you can see, #MixedReality doesn't have to be 100% digital pic.twitter.com/gYLtyl1OsJ

"It would have been pretty sweet, but I can't make it without funds," the developer writes on X.
Davalos is the lead developer of the mixed reality sandbox Figmin XR, which is available on Meta Quest and other devices. He is currently working on a Vision Pro port of the app.
Meta promotes new mixed reality concepts
Meta wants to show that mixed reality goes far beyond games and can have real benefits in everyday life and beyond. That is why the company is now funding so-called lifestyle experiences.
Submissions for the accelerator are already closed, but Meta recently launched an extension to its Meta Horizon Start program aimed at funding lifestyle experiences. Developers can submit their concept through November 29, 2024.
"Mixed reality on Meta Horizon OS can improve the way people engage in their favorite activities, learn new skills and interact with others. Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S are much more than just gaming devices. They can help people learn a new instrument, play recreational sports like pickleball with others in the comfort of their living room, express themselves by painting on a virtual canvas, and much more," Meta writes in its own developer blog.
