FACTS

In collaboration with Meta and game studio "m ss ng p eces", sports equipment manufacturer Asics has developed a new virtual sport called "Disc", designed from the ground up for virtual reality and mixed reality.

Disc's gameplay is designed to offer unique challenges and be physically engaging. In the announcement trailer, you can see two people facing each other in a virtual arena. They toss a disc back and forth, with the goal of hitting the opponent's goal either directly or through a skillful cushion game.

Joe Pace, vice president of Asics Ventures and project lead for DISC, said in a press release: "DISC is about uniting people through the power of sport and creating a global community where we can grow together. Our goal is to collaborate with the Quest community to continue that evolution, shaping the future of sports and redefining what it means to play and compete together."

Disc is designed to appeal to VR and mixed reality newcomers as well as advanced gamers and athletes. An official release on Meta Quest 3, Quest 2 and Quest Pro is planned for the near future. On the game's Discord server, you can find players and updates.

CONTEXT

Virtual reality as a platform for sports & fitness

Disc is not the first virtual sport to be developed for VR. Examples like Echo Arena, a VR game that was originally canceled but revived by fans, or Resolution Games' recently released Racket Club, show that VR and mixed reality are ideal for physically demanding and social sports experiences.
