An early VR gem comes to Meta Quest, for the first time in mixed reality
The Oculus-exclusive action-platformer Witchblood is making a mixed reality comeback on Meta Quest next week.
Hidden Path Entertainment announces that Witchblood is coming to Meta Quest 3, 2 and Pro on July 18th. The studio describes the game as follows:
"With the charm and heart of beloved classics, Witchblood is the story of a young witch who must master newfound powers after her father is slain by a zealous madman. Traveling through mystical puzzle landscapes in all directions, she must defeat an oppressive cult and dangerous creatures to reveal the mysteries of her origin and claim the power of her birthright."
Witchblood is a typical Metroidvania: In a side-scrolling style, you control the main character through a labyrinth of forests, houses, and castles, unlocking previously inaccessible areas of the game world by acquiring new skills.
The worlds appear as 3D dioramas that you can lean into to admire details. The all-new Quest version supports passthrough for the first time, so you can keep an eye on the real world as you play.
Witchblood offers more than 6 hours of exploration and combat, hundreds of rooms, 40 upgrades and four difficulty levels.
You can pre-order Witchblood now from the Quest Store or add it to your wishlist.
Looking forward to a round of VR nostalgia
Witchblood was released in the summer of 2017, exclusively for Samsung Gear VR, Oculus Rift and later, Oculus Go. I played through the game on the Rift back then and still have fond memories of it.
With its fluid platforming and combat, it grabbed me from the first minute and kept me hooked until the end thanks to the character upgrades. That's why I'm looking forward to replaying it in new glory on a modern VR headset.
I think it's great that old VR gems like this are being reworked for Quest and preserved for posterity.
