Meta reportedly canceled plans for a Meta Quest Pro 2
Meta is said to have put development of Meta Quest Pro 2 on hold. However, work on Quest 4 continues.
The Information reports that Meta has scrapped plans for a premium headset and Vision Pro competitor. The decision was reportedly made after a product meeting attended by Mark Zuckerberg, CTO Andrew Bosworth and other Meta executives.
The planned device was codenamed La Jolla. Meta began work on the device in November 2023 and planned to release it in 2027. Meta wanted to use OLED microdisplays, the same type of display used in the Apple Vision Pro. However, the company struggled to keep the price below $1,000 due to the expensive displays.
The Information reports that Meta plans to use the technology it has developed, including the display and eye-tracking, in other upcoming devices. Work continues on lower and mid-range headsets, including the Quest 4. The device is scheduled to be released in 2026.
