There is still no trace of GTA San Andreas VR for Meta Quest

There has been almost two years of silence on GTA: San Andreas for Meta Quest, and even at Meta Connect 2023 there was no update.

Mark Zuckerberg announced the Meta Quest version of the all-time classic video game at Meta Connect on October 28, 2021. You can watch the announcement by playing the Youtube video below.

Since then, not a single word has been uttered about the VR port, which is unusual for a project of this size.

Meta Connect 2023 would have been the perfect opportunity to create some hype around the game and Meta Quest 3, but instead, Meta was silent once again, showcasing other games and apps such as Asgard's Wrath 2, Assassin's Creed Nexus, and many mixed reality titles.

The US outlets UploadVR and Road to VR asked Meta for a statement. The answers, "No comment" and "We don’t have any updates to share on GTA: San Andreas."

GTA: San Andreas VR could still be in development

The status of the project is one of Meta's best-kept secrets. Is GTA: San Andreas still in development, or has the project been canceled like another major title, Splinter Cell VR, without comment from Meta or Ubisoft?

Hopes are raised by the fact that another major long-in-development title, Assassin's Creed Nexus, will finally be released in November. The VR game was announced alongside Splinter Cell VR for fall 2020.

It is possible that GTA: San Andreas will take a little longer and maybe, hopefully, become a Meta Quest 3 exclusive next year. After all, projects of this magnitude take many years to develop. However, when it was announced two years ago, Meta said, "We've been working for years to bring it to Quest".

Hope springs eternal and maybe there will be news at the next Meta Quest Gaming Showcase. The event is usually held in the first half of each year. The 2024 edition has not yet been announced.
