FACTS

Meta has extended the "Free Weekends" promotion, which was originally scheduled to run until August 12, for one last weekend. From Friday, August 16 at 3 pm and running through Monday, August 19 at 1 am (your local time), you can try the VR hits Asgard's Wrath 2 and Contractors Showdown for free.

In contrast to previous weekends, where the trial period was limited to one hour per game, this time you can play both titles for three hours each. If you decide to purchase either game after the trial, you will receive an exclusive 20% discount code via email. This code is valid for up to five days after the end of the free weekend, which means until August 24. The VR games can be downloaded in advance so you can get started on Friday.

CONTEXT

Two real VR hits to round things off

Meta has been organizing the "Free Weekends" since 12 July, during which two new VR games can be tried out for free for an hour every weekend. The aim of the campaign is to arouse VR fans' curiosity and boost VR usage in the summer when it is expected to plummet. Last week, Smash Drums and Ironstrike could be tested. To round off the campaign, Meta is offering you two real VR hits.

Asgard's Wrath 2

Asgard's Wrath 2 is one of the most ambitious VR games to date and takes you into a huge open world that encompasses both Norse and Egyptian mythology. As a god, you must survive the dangers of the Great Sea of Sand and save the realms from Loki. Realistic melee battles, dungeons full of legendary loot and secrets hidden beneath the dunes await you.

In our impressions after eight hours of play, we praised the well-told story, the impressive open world and the intuitive combat system. However, there are also minor points of criticism such as cumbersome menus and muddy textures, which have since been polished up by graphics updates for Quest 3.

Contractors Showdown

Contractors Showdown from Caveman Studio was launched in April and is based on battle royale hits such as PUBG and Call of Duty Warzone in terms of visuals and gameplay. Up to 60 players fight for victory in the shooter on a map covering over 16 square kilometers. With the recently released update to Season 1, Contractors Showdown has also been expanded to include vehicles.

In our Contractors Showdown review, we particularly liked the beginner-friendly tutorial, the solid graphics and the fast gameplay. The only thing that challenged us from time to time were the not always easy maneuvers in the heated battles.
