Crystal Commanders turns your home into an RTS battlefield, or you can play in fully immersive virtual rooms.

The game features a 15-mission, fully voiced story campaign in which players take on the role of the Crystal Vanguard to defend their home from the Crimson Blade. Each mission dynamically adapts to the room in which it takes place, so no two playthroughs will be the same.

In addition to the campaign, Crystal Commanders also features a 1v1 multiplayer mode that can be played locally in mixed reality or online in VR. Three different RTS modes are available, including a modern take on the classic "Kill the King" mode.

In Creative Mode, players can try out new base configurations and strategies without the pressure of battle. With almost unlimited resources, players can design and build fortresses that fit the environment.

First impressions

All game modes can also be played in VR in virtual spaces, so you don't have to choose between mixed reality and virtual reality.

I played Crystal Commanders and felt strongly reminded of classics like Command & Conquer. DB Creations has taken all the important RTS elements and adapted them to the new medium. You can select groups of units by simply drawing a circle on the ground. Those who like to play in mixed reality will have to walk a lot, especially in larger rooms.

The game makes a polished first impression, but I'll have to play a little longer to really judge its quality. However, RTS alternatives are rare on Meta Quest: the only one I can think of is Homeworld: Vast Reaches, which is set in space.

Crystal Commanders is now available in the Horizon Store. The price is $20. It supports Meta Quest 3, 3S, 2 and Pro.
