FACTS

Warpfrog announces that work has begun on the PC VR port, although the studio will not reveal a release date.

"Please give the team time to work on this massive, massive port without pressure and I assure you it will be worth the wait," writes Warpfrog.

The port is based on the PC VR version, and the team's intention is to port all PC VR content 1:1 if possible. Initial reports on the port are optimistic. The game is said to run well on Quest 3 right out of the box, which is surprising considering the size of the new environments. The Quest 2 version will require more optimization. However, the team hopes to achieve feature parity with the PC VR version on Quest 2 as well.

The most significant difference is expected to be in the visual department. The team will have to rework the effects of all the new spells to make them work on Quest. There will also be graphical improvements, such as the look of the ocean. The team will also implement tone mapping to bring the visuals closer to the PC VR version.

CONTEXT

Blade & Sorcery: One of the biggest VR hits

Blade & Sorcery is one of the most successful VR games with nearly 50,000 reviews on Steam and the Quest Store. There are two versions of the game that have been developed in parallel: the PC VR version that has been in development for five years, and the standalone version of the game called Blade & Sorcery: Nomad, which was first released in 2021 and is available for Quest and Pico headsets.

Warpfrog describes the game as a medieval fantasy sandbox that focuses on melee, ranged, and spell-based combat using a physics-based interaction and combat system. Collisions are determined by precise hit boxes, objects have weight and follow the laws of physics, enemies have full-body physics and presence, and blades can be used to pierce soft materials or deflect magic.

The PC VR version came out of Early Access in June with its largest update yet. The biggest new feature was the Crystal Hunt progression mode, which integrates sandbox combat into a narrative campaign and allows players to explore the lore of the fantasy world.
