Meta Quest 3S will be bundled with Batman: Arkham Shadow
A Walmart display of the Quest 3S has been leaked on Reddit, revealing new details about the VR headset.
The Reddit photos show the headset displayed in a glass case, a spec comparison between the Quest 3S and the Quest 3, which confirms the resolution of the new VR headset (1,832 x 1,920 pixels, just like the Quest 2) and that Batman: Arkham Shadow will be included with every Quest 3 or Quest 3S purchase.
The displays also confirms that the new VR headset will ship with the same controllers as the Quest 3, and that there will be a 128GB and 256GB model. Only a 512GB model is listed for the Quest 3, confirming yesterday's rumours.
The full unveiling of the Meta Quest 3S is expected at today's Meta Connect keynote.
Quest 3S: Aggressive pricing meets exclusive software
The Meta Quest 3S will be a more affordable version of the Quest 3 and the direct successor to the Quest 2. An early commercial suggests that the device will start at $300.
According to previous leaks, the Quest 3S will be powered by the Snapdragon XR2 Gen 2, the same chip that is used by Quest 3. The device is also said to offer RGB passthrough, the same ringless Touch Plus controllers and feature parity in software, but will use the older LCD display and Fresnel lenses of the Quest 2.
Meta is looking to pair these specifications with exclusive software. Batman: Arkham Shadow is a fully-fledged Arkham game developed by Meta and will be released exclusively for Quest 3 and Quest 3S.
Josef had the chance to play it at Gamescom and wrote about it in his preview:
"For the life of me, I can't imagine Batman: Arkham Shadow will not be a great VR game. The combat system works brilliantly, the graphics are stunning — not just by Quest standards — and I was immediately captivated by the atmosphere. It remains to be seen whether Camouflaj will be able to maintain the suspension in terms of level design, bosses, and story over the game's intended 8 to 12 hour runtime. In any case, I am confident."
