Meta Quest 2: Update makes Middle Earth your new Quest Home
Quest Update 46 transforms your Quest Home into the Mines of Moria, brings a useful UI improvement, and more privacy settings.
Firmware Update 46 is rolling out to Quest owners in a staggered fashion starting October 6. As usual, it may take up to a week or more for the update to reach all users.
You can check the current firmware version of your Meta Quest 2 under Settings > System > Software Update. Please note that Meta has skipped firmware version 45. The last released version is firmware update 44.
If an update is ready for installation, the option will appear in the same window. Don't worry: manual installation is usually not required, as the system usually installs updates automatically after they are rolled out to the device.
Let's move on to the new content, features, and improvements of Update 46.
Khazad-dûm: Time-limited quest home
Since the beginning of September, the TV series "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" has been running on Amazon Prime. The season one finale airs on October 14.
Amazon and Meta are partnering for the latest Quest Home, bringing the halls of Khazad-dûm to the VR headset. The home environment is inspired by the depiction of the dwarven city in Amazon's TV series.
Khazad-dûm releases on October 10, 2022, available for a limited time. So make sure you download the Home Environment before it disappears again.
For Meta, the collaboration with Amazon Prime marks the first cross-promotion in the form of a Home environment. Hopefully, we'll see more promotions like this in the future.

Quick access to most-used VR apps
With Quest Update 46, it will be easier for you to launch your favorite apps.
The menu bar now displays your three most used apps, so you don't have to open the app library and search for them separately. This shortens the time to get started with virtual reality.
Speaking of the app library, since update 41, it is possible to permanently set the default filter and sort order in the settings. This simplifies app search enormously.
Meta also improved the search tool. You can now search for frequently searched settings. The search results have also been refined and things you have already searched for appear higher in the results.
More control over your privacy
With Quest Update 46, Meta revamps and streamlines the privacy settings. After installing the update, you will be prompted to check your settings again.
Also new: the ability to customize privacy settings for individual VR apps, friends, and devices. For example, you can prevent your friends from seeing when you play a certain game.
