Meta Horizon Worlds is rolling out to many more countries
After a long hiatus, Meta Horizon Worlds will soon be launching in many new countries.
Horizon Worlds will reach the following countries in the coming months:
- Australia
- Austria
- Belgium
- Denmark
- Finland
- Germany
- Italy
- Japan
- Netherlands
- New Zealand
- Norway
- Poland
- South Korea
- Sweden
- Switzerland
- Taiwan
For a long time, Horizon Worlds was only available in seven countries. Meta's proto-metaverse launched in the US and Canada in December 2021. In the summer of 2022, it reached the United Kingdom, Ireland, Iceland, France, and Spain. The platform did not expand to other countries for nearly two years.
After the upcoming rollout, Horizon Worlds will be available in all 23 countries where Quest is sold and supported by Meta. The mobile and web versions of Horizon Worlds will also be rolled out over the next few months. The VR app, available on the Quest Store, is open to all Quest users ages 13 and up (14 and up in South Korea and Spain).

Meta Horizon Worlds was ridiculed for years for its poor graphics and ugly, legless avatars.
Undeterred, Meta continued to invest in the platform. In 2023, the company released a series of quality VR games for the platform, including Super Rumble, Citadel, and Shootball, gave the avatars legs, and integrated Horizon Worlds deeper into the operating system. The effort has paid off: Horizon Worlds is now one of the most used VR apps on Quest.
Horizon is still so important to Meta as a social layer that the Quest's operating system was named after it: Meta Horizon OS. Meta is looking to license Horizon OS to other OEMs in the coming years. And the connective tissue between all VR headsets running on Meta's spatial operating system will be Horizon.
