Meta continues NBA partnership with 52 live games in Virtual Reality for Quest users
Meta and the NBA extend their collaboration for the 2024-25 season, and Quest owners can look forward to 52 immersive basketball games in VR.
Meta has announced that the partnership with the NBA is entering its fourth season. Users of Quest headsets, such as the Meta Quest 3, will be able to watch a total of 52 live NBA games in 180-degree VR during the 2024-25 season. The broadcasts will take place in the Xtadium and NBA Arena apps in Meta Horizon Worlds.
In addition to the live games, users will also have access to immersive highlights 24 hours after each game. In NBA Arena, fans can also play mini-games, connect with friends and trigger visual effects in the virtual stadium.
NBA League Pass subscribers will also be able to watch every live game in 2D with real-time stats in mixed reality.
The schedule for the 52 immersive games is already set. The season kicks off on October 25th with the Chicago Bulls taking on the Milwaukee Bucks. The final game in the series will be played on April 13, 2025, between the LA Lakers and Portland Trail Blazers.
Expanding the NBA Partnership
According to Sarah Malkin, Director of Metaverse Entertainment Content at Meta, the immersive games give fans the feeling of being right on the sidelines. The spatial sound allows fans to experience the atmosphere of a real stadium visit.
Meta's relationship with the NBA began in 2020 when the company's VR division, then known as Oculus, signed a streaming deal with the basketball league. Since then, Meta has been the official VR platform of the NBA.
In addition to the NBA, the partnership also includes the WNBA women's league and the NBA G-League youth league. More details will be announced for the 2025 WNBA season.
