Meta Connect 2024: Mark Zuckerberg announces date in mixed reality
Save the date: Mark Zuckerberg announces Meta Connect 2024, where the next big VR and AR announcements are expected.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced yesterday via a video on his Instagram channel that Meta Connect 2024 will take place on September 25 and 26. He drew the date in the air in a mixed reality environment.
The event will be streamed live on the @Meta or @MetaforDeveloper Facebook pages. More information about speakers, topics and more will be released by Meta later this summer.
Meta Connect: What to expect in 2024
Meta Connect is traditionally used to announce and showcase new products and ideas, as well as software and hardware updates for VR and AR headsets. In 2024, we could see a wow-factor AR headset and a budget version of Meta's current Quest headset, now known as the Meta Quest 3S.
Meta also recently announced that it would be opening up its XR operating system, HorizonOS. It is quite possible that the first headsets from technology partners will be announced.
Since 2014, Meta Connect has been held annually at the end of the calendar year, first as Oculus Connect, then as Facebook Connect, and since 2022 as Meta Connect. It focuses on the future of virtual and augmented reality and features developer presentations as well as announcements of new Metaverse products.
The tenth edition took place from September 27 to 28, 2023. In addition to Meta Quest 3, the Meta | Ray-Ban Smartglasses with video and AI capabilities and numerous VR and mixed reality games were announced. At the same time, Meta Connect 2023 was the first Connect without a presentation by John Carmack.
