PSVR 2 gets one of the bloodiest VR games with Gorn
Gorn is one of the bloodiest VR games ever. After millions of sales, it is now also available for the Playstation VR 2.
The over-the-top gladiator fights in Gorn have caused amusement and horror since the game entered Early Access in 2016. Nowhere else can players dismember waves of opponents in virtual reality in such detail or with such brutality. The full version followed in 2019, selling over 1.5 million copies across all platforms to date, according to publisher Devolver Digital.
So far, the game by developer Free Lives is available on the Meta Quest line, PC VR, and Playstation VR. Now, players of the PS VR 2 (review) can experience the carnage for $19.99. Owners of the original PS VR version receive a free upgrade.
Over-the-top VR carnage for PSVR 2
Apart from the advertised higher resolution, however, little seems to have changed in the PS VR 2 release. The physics and "dismemberment" system still sends masses of bloodstained body parts flying through the arena.
To keep the game from being too gruesome, the developers chose highly stylized animation and a self-deprecating tone that runs through the entire game.
Even the description sets the tone: "Savagely strike down an infinite supply of poorly-animated opponents with all manner of weapons – from swords, maces, and bows, to nunchuks, throwing knives, massive two-handed warhammers, or even your blood-soaked bare hands."
