Eye tracking: New semi-transparent camera promises better VR experience
Researchers at the ICFO Institute de Ciències Fotòniques at the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology have developed a semi-transparent camera that enhances AR/VR experiences by providing an unobstructed view. The sensor consists of an 8×8 array of semitransparent photodetectors and electrodes on a fully transparent substrate. Its optical transparency ranges from 85 to 95 percent. This design allows the sensor to capture light while transmitting a significant amount, making it suitable for applications that require both sensing capability and transparency. The technology could be used for eye tracking in VR and AR headsets and, after further improvements, in smart contact lenses.
