Batman: Arkham Shadow competes with AAA titles in this year's D.I.C.E. Awards
At the D.I.C.E. Awards 2025, VR games are more strongly represented than ever before, indicating a growing recognition of the medium.
There are two categories for VR/MR games at the D.I.C.E. Awards, but in 2025 they are represented in three other categories, competing with traditional titles.
In the Action Game of the Year and Outstanding Technical Achievement categories, Batman: Arkham Shadow is up against AAA games such as Astro Bot, Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Senua's Saga: Hellblade II, Black Mythos: Wukong, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Helldivers 2.
Batman: Arkham Shadow is nominated in four categories, Underdogs is nominated in three categories, and both Alien: Rogue Incursion and Skydance's Behemoth are nominated in two categories. Starship Home is also the first ever mixed reality game to be nominated.

The VR winners of last year's D.I.C.E. Awards were Horizon Call of The Mountain and Asgard's Wrath 2.
What are the D.I.C.E. Awards?
The D.I.C.E. Awards have been presented since 1998 and are considered the "Oscars" of the video game industry. D.I.C.E. stands for Design Innovate Communicate Entertain.
The awards are organized by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS). It assembles a panel of over 100 representatives from the video game industry who are responsible for the nominations. The AIAS, which has more than 20,000 members, votes on the winners.
This is the 28th year that the awards are presented, and as always, the games honored will be from the previous year, 2024. The event will take place on February 13th in Las Vegas. I will update this article when the winners are announced.
