Crysis VR now offers a full virtual reality experience
A well-known VR developer has given Crysis full VR support with the latest version of his mod, but you'll need a powerful computer.
VR developer Holger "Cabalistic" Frydrych has released version 1.0 of his unofficial VR mod Crysis VR.
Cabalistic was the lead developer on Half-Life 2: VR Mod, a VR conversion of the first-person shooter developed and released on Steam with Valve's blessing. Cabalistic also made a name for himself with Far Cry VR, a VR mod for Crytek's first-person shooter. Besides private projects like Crysis VR and Far Cry VR, Cabalistic is also involved in Flat2VR Studios's work.
According to the official website, Crysis VR 1.0 offers the following features:
- full 6DoF roomscale VR experience: play seated or standing with VR motion controllers
- aim your guns naturally with your hands; use two hands to stabilize the guns further
- visible player arms with basic IK
- physical melee attacks
- left-handed support
- bHaptics vest support
Cabalistic has also integrated a manual into the main menu that explains the VR controls.
You can download Crysis VR for free on Github. You must own the base game on Steam or GOG. Only the original version is supported, Crysis Remastered will not work with the mod.
Cabalistic points out that the VR mod requires "fairly potent hardware" and does not recommend using antialiasing as it can cause problems and crashes.
Installation instructions and further information are available
- on the official website of Crysis VR
- on Github
You can support Cabalistic's work through Ko-Fi.
Cabalistic has been working on Crysis VR for quite some time. MIXED reported about Crysis VR almost two years ago. However, the version released at that time (v0.2.0) still lacked some VR features, including motion controls.
