FACTS

Polish studio 3R Games, known for the hit Thief Simulator VR, has announced its latest project. Cave Crave is an immersive cave exploration game due out in spring 2025 for Meta Quest and PlayStation VR2.

In Cave Crave, you explore irregular and unpredictable cave environments with hundreds of strange twists and turns and unusual terrain. You'll have to crawl, climb and squeeze through narrow passageways. A breath control mechanism allows you to adjust the size of your chest to get through particularly tight spots or to avoid drowning.

There is no map in the simulation, but you can write your navigation instructions on the cave walls using chalk. Obstacles such as small stalactites can be smashed with a hammer and larger boulders can be blown up with special tools. The entire game world is interactive, and you can try to climb it with your bare hands or with the help of tools.

Different cave sections present different challenges, such as mud lakes, sulphurous volcanic fumes or deadly frost. To survive, you will need to take care of and maintain your equipment. The game focuses on realism and avoids cheap horror elements. However, creepy features such as cave spiders can be activated as an option.

CONTEXT

A novel idea

3R Games made a name for itself with the surprise hit Thief Simulator VR: Greenview Street. This stealth game puts you in the role of a burglar who must loot houses without getting caught. Motion controls and room-scale gameplay make sneaking, hiding and stealing a truly immersive experience.

With Cave Crave, the studio is venturing into a new type of simulation, but is once again focusing on realism and physical activity. Whether the studio can land another VR hit remains to be seen. However, the unusual game concept and low price suggest that Cave Crave could fill an interesting niche.
