Brink Traveler takes you to an exotic island and upgrades to Meta Avatars 2.0
The latest update to Brink Traveler takes you to an African island and upgrades to Meta's new avatar system.
Did you know that Brink Traveler lets you explore its destinations with friends? The social mode has been updated to support the more lifelike Meta Avatars 2.0 that were introduced a few months ago. Avatar legs are now rendered as well.
The update also adds a new destination, the volcanic island of Réunion off the east coast of Africa. You can visit two spots: The first is at the top of Grand Bénare, from where you can see almost the entire island, while the second lets you visit the edge of the Piton de la Fournaise volcanic crater. I made a video to give you an impression.
The update also improves the visual appearance of airplane trails and shooting stars in night mode and gives you the option to turn off the ambient audio in case you want to use 2D apps such as YouTube, Netflix, or Xbox Cloud Gaming in the beautiful environments.
For 2025, the team promises several new destinations, including the Italian Alps, Lake Tahoe and new locations in Iceland.
You can purchase Brink Traveler from the Horizon Store and Steam.
What is Brink Traveler?
Brink Traveler uses photogrammetry to create hyperrealistic digital duplicates of real places. High-resolution aerial images from drones are combined with ground-based images from tripod cameras.
The VR application currently offers 48 3D environments with a movement radius of a few meters. Although it is not possible to go hiking or the like, the VR app is ideal for relaxation or meditation, which is why it is now being used in therapy.
The VR app is regularly updated with new content and features for free. Since its launch three years ago, numerous new destinations and an AI travel guide have been added. The last two updates added environments from the Turkish region of Cappadocia and introduced dynamic skies and star constellations.
