A VR game is nominated for four gaming Oscars at the 2023 D.I.C.E. Awards
The video game Oscars announce their nominations for this year. One VR game made it to four nominations - even outside the VR categories.
It's that time again: the annual video game Oscars will be awarded for the 26th time. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS) will meet with industry representatives on February 23 in Las Vegas to present the coveted D.I.C.E Awards.
A total of 61 games were nominated this year, including six VR games. That's two fewer than last year, but one title received four nominations.
Moss: Book II clears four nominations at the D.I.C.E. Awards
Since 2017, the D.I.C.E. Awards have had two categories for VR and AR games:
- Immersive Reality Game of the Year (Best VR or AR Game of the Year).
- Immersive Reality Technical Achievement (award for special technical achievement in VR and AR).
But VR and AR games can also be nominated in other categories, as The Climb 2 proved last year. The climbing game, developed by German studio Crytek, was nominated in the "Sports Game of the Year" category at the 2021 D.I.C.E. Awards.
Once again this year, a VR game faces 2D competition: Moss: Book II is nominated in a total of four categories. In addition to the two categories for immersive games, Moss: Book II could also emerge victorious with the awards for special achievements in animation and soundtrack composition. In these categories, the little VR mouse is competing against hits like Elden Ring, God of War Ragnarok and Horizon Forbidden West, among others.
