A new Alien game is in the works - and it's coming for VR
Survios and 20th Century Fox have announced a new game in the Aliens universe. It will be released for PC, consoles and virtual reality.
The game tells an all-new story set between the first Alien movie, a 1979 sci-fi horror film, and the action-packed sequel Aliens (1986).
According to the official website, you take on the role of a battle-hardened veteran who has a vendetta against the Xenomorphs. That sounds like an action-heavy game. Survios itself classifies it as an "action horror game."
Survios: A studio with varying success
There is not much more to reveal so far. The game doesn't have an official name yet, and on its website, Survios is looking for talented developers to join the team. It's quite possible that completion is still a long way off. The game is being developed based on Unreal Engine 5.
Survios has a lot of experience with virtual reality and licensed games. It developed titles like Creed: Rise to Glory, Westworld Awakening and The Walking Dead: Onslaught. While the first two titles were well received, Onslaught is considered a commercial and gameplay flop.
In 2021, Survios released Creed Champions, the first monitor-only game, but it wasn't well received either. With the Aliens game, a title is now in the works that will be released for both 2D and VR platforms. It is not yet confirmed for which VR ecosystems exactly.
Aliens in VR: An excellent combination
The PC VR mod for Alien: Isolation proves that the Aliens franchise and virtual reality are a great fit. The VR version is so good that it made it into our list of the best VR horror games.
If you don't own a PC but a Meta Quest 2, Cosmodread is a suitable alternative. Here you explore a spaceship whose crew has disappeared without a trace and encounter alien life forms.
More information about the Aliens game will be available on July 21 at an Alien Talk panel at San Diego Comic-Con.
