VR Tour: Bryan Cranston guides you through Yosemite National Park

Golden Globe winner Bryan Cranston joins you on an immersive VR journey through Yosemite National Park.

Actor Bryan Cranston has been enlisted as the narrator for the immersive VR documentary "Experience Yosemite." Cranston is best known for his role as Walter White in the hit drama series Breaking Bad.

Bryan Cranston explores Yosemite in VR

Between 2008 and 2014, Cranston won six Emmys and a Golden Globe for Breaking Bad. In 2016, the Academy nominated him for an Oscar for Best Lead Actor in Trumbo. Over the years, the actor has also been a recurring voice actor.

Experience Yosemite marks Cranston's first venture into virtual reality as a voice actor. The actor is enthusiastic about the VR experience: "When I first saw Yosemite… my mind was blown. I was awestruck by its natural beauty and felt that everyone in the world should experience it. This experience is the next best thing… it majestically captures Yosemite from discovery to sustaining its natural wonder. I'm thrilled to be a part of bringing this unique experience to the masses."

The VR documentary highlights Yosemite National Park from its discovery to the present day. It will also feature footage taken by photographer Ansel Adams in the late 19th century.

To bring the uniqueness of its flora and fauna to life in a VR headset for the first time, the filmmakers had to go to great lengths. The photogrammetry shots required extensive hiking and climbing, as the use of drones is not allowed in Yosemite National Park.

Yosemite VR documentary launches in summer

Experience Yosemite premieres this summer at Yosemite Cinema in Oakhurst, California. Previously, production company CityLights brought projects like MVP Football - The Patrick Mahomes Experience and Spheres to the Meta Store. It is not yet known whether the new VR experience will also come to Meta Quest (2) and other VR headsets.

If you want to experience Yosemite National Park in VR today, check out Felix & Paul Studios' VR experience. The VR film "Through the Ages" (see trailer above) was created in 2016 from a collaboration between Oculus, National Geographic, and former U.S. President Barack Obama.

VR documentary is shown on special chairs

Part of the Yosemite Cinema is the Positron VR Theater, which is equipped with Voyager VR chairs. The special seats are designed to prevent nausea in VR. They tilt or rotate in sync with the VR experience, provide haptic feedback and emit scents to enhance immersion.

Motion sickness often results from the perception of visual movement in the absence of physical movement. The Voyager chairs are designed to compensate for this discrepancy. According to the manufacturer, the discomfort is reduced from twenty percent to 0.2 percent of users.
