Bigscreen: Update brings YouTube to the VR cinema app
You can now stream YouTube content to the virtual screen of the VR cinema app Bigscreen. What features does the update add?
The VR app Bigscreen aims to bring the cinema experience to virtual reality. Users can meet in virtual rooms and watch blockbusters, 3D movies or TV content together on the big screen. The VR app now also supports content from the YouTube video platform.
YouTube comes to the VR screen
Bigscreen now supports all the features of Google's video platform. You can log in to your YouTube account, browse through personalized content, or search through your playlists. According to Bigscreen, the user experience should be like what you know from the YouTube interface on other devices.

YouTube Premium subscribers can also log in to the paid service in the VR app and use its exclusive offers. The same applies to YouTube TV users. You can also rent movies and series via the YouTube video store for a fee.
Social VR with Bigscreen and YouTube
The YouTube screen is embedded in the various VR environments of Bigscreen. Dynamic lighting of the virtual screen, which is supposed to enable an immersive cinema experience, is also supported.
With the integration of the YouTube social video platform, Bigscreen also wants to emphasize its own social VR ambitions. People can watch YouTube content either with friends in private rooms or with other streamers in public Bigscreen rooms.
Since Bigscreen's major VR cinema update late last year, up to 15 users can meet in a virtual room at the same time to watch movies.
More updates for Bigscreen in preparation
The update is now available for free download for Meta Quest, Meta Quest 2, HTC Vive, Valve Index and other VR headsets with SteamVR or Windows Mixed Reality access.
Bigscreen has already announced further improvements. For example, a new friend system will be introduced in the coming months. A remote desktop and support for Bluetooth keyboards and gamepads are also planned.
