Meta Quest's Horizon Worlds gets a new AI-powered rival coming this may

ContinuumXR has unveiled Transcend Social, a social VR app that makes an ambitious promise: if you can imagine it, you can create it.
Meta's Metaverse experiment Horizon Worlds might soon face competition on its home turf. While Meta's virtual playground requires users to build worlds through a complex editor, the newly announced Transcend Social aims to unleash creativity through AI assistance.
The app's killer feature is instant 3D object generation. Want a floating ramen shop? A life-sized giraffe made of lava lamps? A tower of sparkling disco balls? According to the developers, you just type what you want, and it materializes before your eyes.
Virtual hangouts get an AI upgrade
At launch, users can access six detailed environments: Forest, Beach, Cyberpunk Club, Snow Lodge, Skyscraper, and a performance-optimized 3D Creation Room. You're free to populate these spaces with AI-generated objects, share them with friends, and showcase them on community-curated leaderboards.
Beyond the AI-powered 3D generation, the app includes a built-in video feature letting you watch YouTube or browse the web from any room in the virtual space.
Getting around isn't limited to walking - users can hop into hover chairs, sports cars, and other vehicles. The social multiplayer mode supports up to 10 friends per instance, who can decorate together, chat, or enjoy the available entertainment options. To keep things interesting, the app includes mini-games like lawn darts, stone stacking, cyberpunk darts, and collaborative whiteboard drawing.
Pricing: Free-to-Play with Premium Options
The free version of Transcend Social gives users access to all six environments and allows generating up to two items per session, with one free item granted daily. For $5.99 monthly, the premium subscription unlocks the full experience: unlimited item creation, complete access to all tools and vehicles, expanded storage, and access to future premium features as they roll out.
Built in Unity, Transcend Social features experimental support for Meta's enhanced avatars and hand tracking. The app launches May 22, 2025, for Meta Quest 3 and Quest 3S, with Early Access available now.
