The Bigscreen Beyond PC VR headset is known for its sleek form factor and light weight of 127 grams (the visor without the head strap and face pad).

The headset is much smaller and lighter than Meta Quest and Apple Vision Pro, but unlike those, it also requires a PC, a cable, and SteamVR tracking, which uses two tracking boxes installed in the room to track your movements.

The successor, Bigscreen Beyond 2, is an iterative improvement with higher quality lenses and a new IPD system, as well as optional eye tracking and Halo Mount acccessory.

New lenses, same display

The biggest upgrade to the Bigscreen Beyond 2 are the much improved pancake lenses. Bigscreen promises a larger field of view, comparable to the Quest 3, higher edge-to-edge clarity, a larger sweet spot, less glare and more brightness.

The screens have not changed. The two Micro-OLED displays still have a resolution of 2,560 x 2,560 pixels per eye. Like its predecessor, the full resolution is only reached at 75 Hz. At 90 Hz, the image is rendered in the lower resolution and then upscaled to 2,560 x 2,560 pixels.

A new feature in Bigscreen Beyond 2 is the new interpupillary distance (IPD) system. Unlike its predecessor, the IPD is no longer set to a fixed personal value, but can be adjusted separately for each eye using a small tool. The form factor has not changed. In fact, the weight has been reduced by 16 percent from 127 to 107 grams.

The face pad is still custom-made and requires an iPhone scan of the face. In Q3 2025, Bigscreen plans to launch a Halo Mount accessory, inspired by night vision goggles, that will eliminate the need for a face scan.

Users of the Halo Mount can choose to wear the headset with the personal face pad, a universal-fit light shield that is included with the Halo Mount, or without any face pad. The Halo Mount is compatible with the standard head strap or the separately available Audio Strap.

Eye trackingwill be available at extra cost

Bigscreen has also announced an eye tracking variant called Bigscreen Beyond 2e, which will be released later this year. It is primarily intended for more realistic avatar eyes in VRChat. With support from Nvidia and Valve, support for foveated rendering is planned for later this year.

Bigscreen Beyond 2 replaces its predecessor, which is no longer available. The price is $1,019, and does not include the separately available SteamVR tracking and VR controller.

Bigscreen Beyond 2 will start shipping in April in three colors. Buyers of the original headset will receive a limited-time discount.
