Playstation VR 2 gets PC performance boost with latest update
Sony's latest update to their PSVR 2 PC app brings welcome improvements, including a new Bluetooth connection quality checker and fixes for controller lag issues.
Sony just rolled out version 3.0.0 of their Playstation VR 2 PC app, introducing several key improvements for users who've connected their headset to a computer. The headline feature is a new tool that lets users check their controller's Bluetooth connection quality, accessible through a dedicated menu option in the PC app.
The update also addresses a persistent issue where controller feedback wasn't quite keeping up with user actions. Beyond these specific fixes, Sony promises the usual suite of performance and stability improvements that come with any major update.
For users still wrestling with controller connectivity or tracking problems, Sony recommends a thorough check of their Bluetooth setup and environment. They've provided detailed troubleshooting steps through PlayStation Support for those who need it.
Continuous improvements for PSVR 2 on PC
This marks the second major update for the PSVR2's PC app. Version 2.0.0 had already tackled some significant issues, including fixing image distortions during head movement that some users had mistakenly attributed to Sony's reprojection technology. That update also gave AMD Radeon RX graphics card owners more control over their headset's refresh rate, either through the SteamVR status window or dashboard.
Sony launched their PC adapter for the PSVR 2 in August 2024, pricing it at around $60. The adapter lets users connect their headset directly to a PC via DisplayPort 1.4, though you'll need both a Steam account and a PC that meets the minimum specs to use it.
Even with this latest update, several key PSVR 2 features remain unavailable on PC. Users still can't access HDR, haptic feedback from the controllers and headset, eye tracking, or 3D audio. That said, the headset's core features remain intact — including its 2K resolution per eye, 110-degree field of view, and finger tracking capabilities.
