FACTS

Swedish studio Combat Waffle and Beyond Frames Entertainment have opened pre-orders for Silent North, their upcoming VR survival shooter. The game drops players into the infected-ravaged Swiss Alps, where they'll battle harsh weather, hordes of zombies, and desperate survivors while competing for scarce resources.

Silent North is scheduled to launch on Meta Quest and SteamVR this year. Meta Quest users who pre-order can grab the game at a 15% discount off its $19.99 retail price, while Steam users can currently only add it to their wishlist. The developers have plans for Playstation VR 2 and Pico versions, though details haven't been announced yet.

FEATURES & TRAILER

Survival in a harsh alpine world

The game transports players to a stunning but unforgiving mountain landscape where supplies are limited and the infected roam freely. Players will need to scavenge abandoned villages for weapons and supplies while staying ready for intense firefights with other survivors. The core gameplay revolves around managing basic needs like food, water, and warmth while exploring treacherous mountain terrain.

Players can form alliances with others to improve their odds of survival, though trust remains a risky proposition. The day-night cycle adds strategic depth — during daylight hours, infected can be spotted from afar, while darkness provides cover for stealthy approaches. Success depends on adapating tactics to the time of day while searching villages and corpses for crucial resources.

CONTEXT

Building on previous success

Combat Waffle Studios has already proven their chops in the VR survival genre with Ghosts of Tabor, which recently crossed $20 million in sales. Players average over 100 minutes per session, and the game's Discord community has grown beyond 113,000 members.

According to Beyond Frames' Head of Publishing Maeva Sponbergs, the studio aims to demonstrate through Silent North and their latest title Grim that VR survival games can offer just as much variety as traditional gaming platforms.
