The nearly forgotten tactical shooter Onward is getting its biggest update yet later this year.
Meta announced update 2.0 for Onward on the Quest blog:
"Now, we’re thrilled to let you know that later this year, Onward will receive its biggest update ever with Update 2.0. There will be a massive graphical overhaul across weapons and utilities , a new Operator system with 20 new characters, and new map content.
Meta will share more details in the near future.
You can purchase Onward from the Horizon Store and Steam.
Onward focuses on a realistic combat experience with authentic weapon physics, manual reloading, and realistic damage models. Players compete in 5v5 battles where communication and strategy are key. In addition to online matches, there is a co-op mode against AI opponents and a solo training option. Onward features a variety of maps ranging from urban war zones to open deserts.
The developer studio Downpour Interactive was acquired by Meta in April 2020. Since then, development of the popular tactical shooter has slowed down, and two years after the acquisition, CEO Dante Buckley left Meta. The last major update 1.14 was released a year ago and introduced a mercenary mode.
Now it seems that the studio has not been idle and has something big in the pipeline. Will Update 2.0 be able to breathe new life into the tactical shooter after newer titles like Breachers, Contractors Showdown, and Ghosts of Tabor might have overtaken it in popularity?
