Meta Quest: Asgard's Wrath 2 Studio is working on "next big thing"
Work on Asgard's Wrath 2 has been completed. Meta's VR studio now turns its attention to the next big project.
Last week, Sanzaru Games released the last major update for Asgard's Wrath 2. It includes the twelfth and final cosmic event ("The Long Winter") for the month of January, as well as bug fixes.
In the future, the studio will only focus on major issues and bug reports. There will be no new content, and from February the game will repeat the cosmic events of the last twelve months. Those who missed the monthly events will be able to catch up throughout the year and beyond.
After finishing work on Asgard's Wrath 2, Meta's VR studio is turning its attention to a new project. The Community Manager writes on Discord:
"That being said, we're switching focus and working on some AWESOME stuff and when the time comes, we can't wait to share our next big thing with our community here."
Asgard's Wrath 2 is the most comprehensive RPG designed from the ground up for virtual reality, offering over one hundred hours of gameplay. It was released on 15 December 2023 for Meta Quest 2 and 3 and currently holds a score of 86 points on Metacritic. It was included with every new Meta Quest 3 purchase until June 2024. Last May, the VR game received a major update that improved the graphics on Quest 3.

What could be Sanzaru Games' next project?
Sanzaru Games' next big project will most likely be another RPG, or at least one with RPG elements. Meta knows that RPGs are an underrepresented genre in VR and presumably bought Sanzaru Games in 2020 for this reason, after the studio delivered one of the biggest and best VR RPGs with the first Asgard's Wrath.
The new project could be Asgard's Wrath 3 with a new setting or an entirely new RPG franchise. Maybe even an MMORPG or live service title?
If it's a project on the same scale as Asgard's Wrath 2, Meta may be planning to release it at the same time as Meta Quest 4. According to one report, the next generation of headsets will be released in late 2026.
