Dawn of Jets is a new flight sim developed exclusively for Meta Quest
Dawn of Jets is a new, semi-realistic flight simulation that specializes in iconic fighter jets.
Dawn of Jets entered Early Access on December 13th. It supports Meta Quest 3, 3S, 2 and Pro.
The VR game is a simcade, a mixture of simulation and arcade game, which is realistic but easier to play than a more "real" flight simulator like DCS or Microsoft Flight Simulator.
A special feature of Dawn of Jets is the interactive cockpit with manually operated control sticks, throttles, flaps, switches, instruments, weapon systems and much more.
The focus is on historic fighter jets. The VR game already features ten jets, with more to come.
The studio promises a "super-smooth physics flight model supports takeoffs, landings, rolls, loops, and even carrier launches and traps."
There are three game modes:
- Career: Dozens of handcrafted missions without no algorithmic repetition
- Challenges: Leaderboards for combat, racing, and flight challenges
- Free flight: Relaxed exploration of vast landscapes
You can purchase Dawn of Jets from the Horizon Store. For feedback, head over to the studio's Discord server.
Growing selection of flight games for Meta Quest
The US studio eV Interactive specializes in 3D action games for consoles, smartphones, and PC. Most recently, the studio developed the flight simulation Air Combat Pilot: WW2 Pacific for iOS and Android. So it made sense for them to try their hand at a similar Quest title.
On Reddit, the developer announced the prospect of new aircraft, missions and features, including a multiplayer mode. A PC VR version is not currently planned, as this market is much smaller and competition is greater.
The studio also writes that Dawn of Jets runs at 72 hertz on Quest 2 and 90 hertz on Quest 3, and that the resolution in the game can be increased significantly with an in-game slider without affecting the frame rate.
Alternative flight games with varying degrees of realism for Meta Quest are:
- Warplanes: WW1 Fighters and Warplanes: Battles over Pacific
- Ultrawings and Ultrawings 2
- Flight 74 (2024)
