Meta Quest 3S: Further signs of strong Christmas sales
Meta Quest VR headsets seem to be a big hit under the Christmas tree. The Horizon app topped the app store charts.
On Christmas Day, the Meta Horizon app was the number one free app in the Apple App Store in both the US and UK. This put the app ahead of perennial favorites like TikTok and YouTube. The Amazon Alexa app, traditionally strong at Christmas, had to settle for second place this year.
Since the Meta Horizon app is required to set up new Quest VR headsets, this could indicate a good holiday season for Meta. While the company has yet to release specific sales figures, it has recently expressed satisfaction with sales.
Quest 3S could be a hit for Meta
Meta's technical director Andrew Bosworth confirmed the positive sales figures for the Meta Quest 3S in an annual review. According to Bosworth, sales were already very good over the Black Friday weekend, with many activations expected over the holidays.
The Meta Quest 3S is the most affordable VR headset in Meta's portfolio, costing $299. Meta is currently adding the VR blockbuster Batman: Arkham Shadow and other giveaways, which should have boosted sales recently.
Reality Labs: Heavy Losses Despite Rising Sales
However, as Business Insider reports, Meta is still facing major challenges. Meta's Reality Labs division posted a loss of $4.4 billion in the third quarter of 2024, up from $3.7 billion in the same period last year.
For the first nine months of 2024, losses totaled nearly $13 billion. However, quarterly revenue for Reality Labs, which includes Ray-Ban | Meta Smart Glasses, rose 29 percent to $270 million.
