According to a leak documented by Videocardz, Nvidia is planning to launch five new graphics card models in the RTX 5000 series in early 2025. The cards, which are based on the Blackwell architecture, are expected to offer significant improvements over the current generation.

At the top of the range is the GeForce RTX 5090 with a TDP of over 600 watts. An adapted version called RTX 5090D is planned for the Chinese market. The RTX 5080 (600 watts), RTX 5070 Ti (400 watts) and RTX 5070 (285 watts) are positioned below this.

The technical data of the RTX 5090 seems impressive: with 21,760 shader units and 32 GB GDDR7 memory, it would significantly outperform its predecessor, the RTX 4090 (16,384 shaders, 24 GB GDDR6X). At 28 GBit/s, the new GDDR7 memory should work significantly faster than the GDDR6X of the current generation.

FEATURES

More memory and higher performance thanks to new architecture

These are the most important features of the new RTX 5000 series:

  • New memory configuration: the RTX 5090 and 5080 rely on fast GDDR7 memory with up to 32 GB (5090) and 16 GB (5080) respectively. The 5070 Ti also has 16 GB, while the 5070 is equipped with 12 GB.
  • Improved architecture: The new Blackwell generation offers more shader units and a higher memory bandwidth than its predecessors.
  • High power consumption: With TDP values of up to 600 watts, the top models continue the trend towards energy-hungry high-end cards.
  • Memory throughput: With up to 1,792 GB/s for the RTX 5090, the new generation achieves almost double that of the previous generation.
  • Shader performance: The significantly increased number of shader units promises massive performance increases, especially for AI applications and computationally intensive games.

It is interesting that Nvidia has not initially announced any mid-range models, such as an RTX 5060 or 5060 Ti. This leaves the popular price segment below $300 to Intel with the Arc B580 for now.
