Home Sports brings instant fun with five sports on Quest 3 and 3S today
Home Sports is coming to Meta Quest 3 and 3S today. MIXED tried out the single player mode.
The latest game from Resolution Games (Demeo, Spatial Ops, Racket Club) brings five sports to your living room: pickleball, hockey, bowling, mini golf and badminton.
To make the experience as accessible as possible, the studio is using mixed reality. The big advantage is that you are always aware of your physical surroundings and can move around more freely without fear of hurting yourself or others.
The play area can be placed anywhere in the room and can be significantly enlarged if you have enough space. The minimum size is 2 x 2 meters. Ideally, you would have even a little more room, as some sports require you to move out of the playing area to catch a ball, for example.
Many modes to choose from
Home Sports offers plenty of entertainment, whether you prefer to play alone or with others.
For solo players, there is a career mode that introduces you to the five sports and consists of 53 challenges of increasing difficulty. Alternatively, you can simply select a sport and immediately compete against AI opponents (three difficulty levels) or hone your skills in the Drills and Practice game modes.
For those who prefer to compete or play socially, there is both an online multiplayer mode and a co-located multiplayer mode, both for 2–4 players.
I've only tried the single-player modes so far. But I imagine that Home Sports is best when played with friends in the same room. A second Meta Quest 3 is on its way to me right now, so I'll write about my impressions of the co-located multiplayer next week.
A highly polished and accessible sports experience
Resolution Games is known for creating accessible, colorful and family-friendly VR and MR games, and Home Sports is no exception. No matter what sport you choose: You can jump in and have fun without having to think about the mechanics.
I enjoyed pickleball, badminton and mini golf the most because they are so natural and intuitive to play. With bowling, I had to get used to the lack of weight on the bowling balls. And I haven't quite got the hang of hockey yet, but I can see its potential when played with a friend.
I've captured some footage from my experience that illustrates the customizability of the playing area and shows clips from all five sports so you can see how they fit into the physical environment.
Home Sports is releasing today exclusively for Meta Quest 3 and 3S in the Horizon Store. The price is $20.
