What is the VR game of the year 2024?
The Game Awards have announced their nominees for Best VR Game 2024. Is your favorite among them?
The Game Awards will be held on December 12, 2024 at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles. This will be the eleventh year that the Game Awards have been held, and the ninth time that VR games have been recognized in their own category.
The games are nominated by over a hundred international game publications, journalists, and influencers. This panel casts 90 percent of the votes, while the remaining ten percent are cast by gamers who can vote for their favorites online.
These VR games are nominated in 2024
The following five titles are nominated for Best VR Game:
- Arizona Sunshine Remake (multiplatform)
- Asgard's Wrath 2 (Quest-exclusive)
- Batman: Arkham Shadow (Quest-exclusive)
- Metal: Hellsinger VR (Multiplatform)
- Metro Awakening (Multiplatform)
Arizona Sunshine could not have been nominated if the Game Awards had not changed their rules this year to allow remakes to be nominated.
Asgard's Wrath 2's nomination is a bit surprising in that the game was released in 2023, on December 15, 2023 to be exact.
Batman: Arkham Shadow's nomination will come as no surprise to anyone, as it has been acclaimed by press and fans alike and is a strong contender for VR Game of the Year. Metal: Hellsinger VR, on the other hand, was met with caution and its nomination seems a bit odd. I would have preferred an original VR or MR title to shine a spotlight on a smaller studio.
Finally, Metro Awakening also made the list, giving VR studio Vertigo Games two spots on the list alongside Arizona Sunshine Remake. Meta, whose first-party studios Sanzaru Games and Camouflaj each received a nomination, also has a reason to celebrate.
