The beautiful mixed reality game "Squingle" gets a new edition on Meta Quest

The beautiful mixed reality game

The tactile and trippy MR game Squingle is being relaunched for Meta Quest and now has a mini version for you to try out.

Squingle is a 3D puzzle game of skill, in which you have to move rotating orbs with your hands through transparent, tubular organisms - the eponymous squingles - without touching their edges. The orbs are moved with your hands, either with the controllers or by hand tracking. The game can be played sitting down or standing up.

I first tried Squingle three years ago and loved it for its accessibility and the way it plays to the strengths of the medium. The game is an audiovisual experience like no other, especially in mixed reality. But you can also play it in fully immersive VR with animated backgrounds.

Squingle is being re-released

Squingle was released in 2021. For reasons unknown to me, it never made the leap from the App Lab to the Quest Store. With the App Lab now history and Quest 3S set to see a resurgence of interest in VR in the coming weeks and months, it makes sense to re-release Squingle for a whole new audience. The game's new publisher is VRAL.

Like the original, the new version offers 100 levels, with more to be added in the future. Other features include a challenge mode with time trials and leaderboards, as well as the ability to play against your own "ghost".
