Playstation VR 2 gets another visually stunning kayaking game
Whitewater VR is a kayaking simulation for PSVR 2 with realistic graphics and physics coming out this week.
The kayak simulation Kayak VR: Mirage is facing competition, as Whitewater VR - Extreme Kayaking Adventure will be released for Playstation VR 2 on October 24, 2024.
Unlike Kayak VR: Mirage, Whitewater VR focuses primarily on whitewater routes and is therefore more action-oriented. Developer Ádám Horváth describes the VR game as follows:
"Whitewater VR - Extreme Kayaking Adventure is an immersive kayaking simulation game that places players in the heart of exciting and challenging river courses. You will learn the basics of extreme kayaking, navigate through different river environments, and experience the thrill of whitewater rapids from the comfort of your home."
Developed with Unreal Engine 5, the VR game features realistic water simulation and kayak physics in five environments. Click on the links to view YouTube videos of the environments.
The PSVR 2 version supports foveated rendering
In addition to the tutorial, there are 2 modes:
- Time Attack: "Race against the clock and reach the next checkpoint before time runs out! Collect floating crates to gain extra time, but watch out for bombs!"
- Free Ride: "Explore river environments at your own pace without the pressure of objectives or time limits."
Online leaderboards will be available for competitive players.
The PSVR 2 version is almost identical to the PC VR version, Horváth tells me. The only difference is the refined canyon environment. The PSVR 2 version also supports foveated rendering and runs at a native 90 frames per second. The haptics of the Sense controllers are designed to simulate the feel of paddling and water resistance. Trophy collectors can get their hands on 26 trophies, including a platinum trophy.
Whitewater VR: Extreme Kayaking Adventure is available on Steam and from October 24th in the Playstation Store, where you can already add it to your wishlist.
Meta Quest owners also have something to look forward to. A Quest 3 version is currently in development and is expected to be released in the first quarter of 2025.
