The 3DS emulator CitraVR for Quest has received an update after a long hiatus
CitraVR takes 3DS games to the next level with Meta Quest. After a long hiatus, an update to the emulator has been released.
CitraVR is back after an 8-month break. The last update was in February 2024, but yesterday the software was updated to version 0.5.0.
The update brings a new UI with options to start, select and close games. It fixes a bug with the Immersive VR mode on Horizon OS v69 and higher. It implements Dr. Beef's "Super Immersive Mode 2" (which supports 6DoF tracking). The "left menu" button on the left controller can now be used to toggle menu visibility, both in immersive and non-immersive modes (menu is off by default in Immersive mode).
The full release notes are available on Github. You can download CitraVR there or via SideQuest.
I checked out CitraVR earlier this year. The software takes 3DS games to the next level by rendering them on a large virtual screen, in high resolution and with impressive stereoscopic depth. Thanks to passthrough support, you can stay in your environment while playing, or even play lying down with a large screen on your ceiling.
Later, Super Immersive Mode was added, which projects gameplay onto a huge 180-degree screen, making the experience even more immersive.
Development seems to have stopped after Nintendo forced the end of the Yuzu and Citra emulators. CitraVR is based on Citra.
